RAID 10 , replacement disk failed to rebuild from intel RST despite adding the new drive as RAID memeber

$

A little bit of history. - I have a sever with 4 HDD and RAID10. Some years back these 4 HDDs were all 1 TB each but over time i have changed some with one of them now a 2TB WD drive. Just recently, Intel RST reported that the Array is broken with one of the disk showing failed on the intel RST console and gave the option to reset disk. I clicked on reset disk and the Array began to Rebuild and after that everything seemed fine
.

The next day it displayed degraded volume with port 2 failed

Radi faliure.JPG

Next day i got another HDD a 4TB WD HDD and replaced the failed drive. The moment i boot the system, the Intel matrix storage manager discovered the non RAID member disk and suggested i add this disk to the RAID member which i did.  And the RAID volume status says Rebuild

intel rom.png

However when i boot into windows (svr2008 r2) the Intel RST refuses to give me option to rebuild or even start the rebuild automatically.

After some research online I later installed newer version  (15.2.0.1020) but still this did not solve the problem.

I did appreciate any help to solve this

RAID rebuild fail.JPG

Qs. is this problem as a result of 4TB non- support? is the ROM to old for 4TB ? is the intel RST misbehaving, is there a bug somewhere?

RSTe Service not Running, Driver Confusion - Which RST / RSTE / RSTE NVME Driver should I use and where to get it

Hello,

I am setting up an asus z10pe-d16 ws using the intel RAID - On a WIn 10 Pro X64 System -

Z10PE-D16 WS | Motherboards | ASUS USA

I have the latest Chipset and 'C610 Intel RAID' drivers on the website and they arent working for me.

https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/Z10PED16_WS/HelpDesk_Download/

My installation of RSTe looks like its working but the tray Icon permanently says 'RSTe Service' not running, and the message is in fact correct, even though I installed the package, there is no windows service I can see for Intel RSTe.  On my other machine I have the Intel RST version, and everything works like a champ - So before I delve into long exploratory process, my first instinct was to get the latest driver, as that often times resolves most problems.

I cannot find a driver for "Intel RSTe Sata sSata" on Intel's site, I see the regular RST driver and an RSTE NVME.

So my question is 2 fold, Any suggestion on how to get the service to install?

and as far as the drivers go,

Is there an updated driver for me? If so please point me to it.

Doesn't seem from reading I can use the standard RST driver. Is that correct?

Can I use the RSTE NVME?

If its relevant, I have the Sata controller on which I want to use the RAID in raid mode, and the Raid array is working, despite the fact there is no service running.

Thanks All, first time with the 'enterprise' level IRSTe

Hello, so for over a month I have been struggling with this one. If i install the last driver for my ATA controller (14.8) I lost the Sata3 performance. Yep, just like that.
I returned my first SSD to the store and received a brandnew one. New windows 10 install, and the problem persists.

Hello there,

I'm having a weird issue.

I am always checking that my computer has all it drivers up to date, and i'm using mostly 2 software to do so: Dell support Assist (Dell computer), and Intel Driver Utility (not sure of the name, but the software to keep drivers up to date).

And it appears that on both software, i always have an update: the Intel HM87 Chipset Driver. Pictures are better than words, here are two screen shots:

Everytime i install the update, and everytime it still appears.
Anything to solve this?

Thanks for helping!

Absurd bug with Windows Server 2008 SP2 causes the system to be completely unusable

$

Hello everyone. I'm new to the forums here, so I apologize if this is the wrong place to post this. Please bear with me.

Anyway, onto the issue I'm experiencing. I have installed Windows Server 2008 SP2 64-bit on one of my Haswell systems, with an ASUS H97M-E motherboard and a Core i5 4460.

But the issue I'm experiencing is absolutely bizarre, and also seems to affect Windows Vista, as I tested that OS as well to ensure it wasn't exclusive to Server 2008, however I don't plan to use that OS as a main, since support is ending soon (Server 2008 support was recently extended until January 2020, along with Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7, so it's still a viable option). Other OSes I tested were Windows 7, 8.1, and 10 and they all worked normally, so this issue is exclusive to NT 6.0.

Essentially, here's what happens. After installing Windows, the system will only boot successfully about every 5 out of 10 attempts. Each time it fails to boot successfully, the symptoms that occur vary. Here are the circumstances I've experienced:

This is the most common occurrence. Just before when the login screen would normally appear, an error appears with the following text: "Interactive logon process initialization has failed. Please consult the event log for more details". Upon clicking Ok, usually the system will remain at a black screen, forcing me to hard reset.

Another occurrence is as follows: the system will appear to boot normally, but after entering my password, it will logon to a blank screen. I then am forced to open Task Manager and start the explorer.exe process manually. After doing this, the desktop will appear, but lots of services have failed to start, such as Windows Audio, Windows Defender, etc, forcing me to once again hard reset until I can get the system to boot normally again.

If the system boots normally and I want to restart the system, I can tell if this bug is going to activate again on the next boot attempt by checking for these symptoms: When the system begins to shut down, instead of the normal "Shutting down" screen appearing, the desktop will fade into a black screen with a cursor. The system will then shut down, and when this occurs, the system is guaranteed to fail on the next boot attempt, and I have to keep resetting until it boots properly.

This bug is also not exclusive to my system, as I have several friends that own Haswell machines that are similar to mine, and I have requested that they try both Server 2008 and Vista, and they experience the exact same symptoms.

When the system does boot normally, everything works as it should... so I'm absolutely stumped as to what to do. This is the most bizarre bug I have ever seen, especially considering that even Windows XP will at least boot properly on Haswell. But both Vista and Server 2008 just appear to be completely intolerant of Haswell. I know that Windows Vista is basically irrelevant these days and has never been exactly loved by many, but Windows Server 2008 will continue to be supported for another 4-5 years and has a much better reputation than Vista, so I feel that something really ought to be done to at least fix this issue for potential Server 2008 users that may need to use the OS on Haswell, whether for compatibility reasons or financial limitations. I am using it for the latter reason.

Now, I know that driver support for the NT 6.0 family of operating systems is extremely limited on Haswell, but Intel did provide working chipset drivers, so I installed them. I also have a dedicated graphics card and don't use the onboard graphics, so that isn't an issue. The only missing drivers are the USB 3.0 drivers, but that shouldn't be contributing to this issue.

If you ask me, it looks like Intel or Microsoft would have to be willing to release a hotfix to fix this problem, but considering that Server 2008 is out of mainstream support now, that's a bit of a stretch, unfortunately...

Does anyone have any ideas on what else could be done to fix this issue? I've tried adjusting BIOS settings, installing all of the latest Windows Updates, etc... all the usual things. None of it helped at all with this issue.

Thanks everyone.

Where else would it be or how else can I remove that

Intel Smart Response < 20 MB/s transfer speed between hard drives

I recently picked up a Core i5 6600k and a Gigabyte Z170 Gaming 6 with 16GB of RAM. My storage system consists of one 60GB SSD, and two 1TB HDDs. After some research I decided to make use of Intel Smart Response over installing Windows 7 X64 SP1 directly to the SSD. The install went well, RAID was enabled, and Intel RST was set to enable Performance mode. Start-up time and general use of my computer is quite fast, as to be expected.

However, when I started transferring some files between my secondary hard drive and the hard drive linked to the RAID cache drive, my speeds are incredibly slow. For example I started transferring 36.3 GB of data. Now I have 15.5 GB of data left to transfer, and the speed is currently sitting at 11.7 MB/s. It's slowly declining. Also, I cannot open any programs or minimize or maximize any Windows, without waiting 5-10 minutes for the mouse click to register. I tried to open Intel RST while the transfer is ongoing, and it does not even open. Nor does Task Manager.

Is this normal for a cache drive RAID array?

(The chipset appears to be Intel 5520/5500/X58.)

I think the SATA controller corresponds to the Intel ICH10R lpc interface controller listed in Device Manager under system devices.

Is that the correct?  I.e., is the ICH10R driver the SATA driver?

If so, where can I find the most recent version of that driver?
